The Fab Four: Day at the Beach

On Tuesday morning we all got up and packed lunches and got ready to head out to Galveston to the beach. This was the one thing my kids really wanted to do while in Texas. Bailey was just a baby last time we were at a beach and we never even got in the water with her so this was her first trip and Caleb has been asking for the last year when he got to go to the beach again. I think we were all looking forward to a fun relaxing day at the beach and it was perfect weather for it. It was about an hour and 15 min drive. It was fun driving through Galveston and seeing all the old buildings and sites. There were even some places still boarded up from the hurricane. It was a fun scenic drive. We arrived at the beach and since it was a Tuesday it was pretty vacant. The kids instantly ran out to some big sand hills that they had a long the beach and before we could get sunblock or swimsuits on half of them were already testing out the water. It was a little windy but absolutely gorgeous weather, in the mid 80's and the water was so warm. It felt so good! I have always hated the salty smell at the beach and I loved that this was not the case at the beach we were at. The kids were in heaven. They both got right in the water and loved splashing around. Bailey kept filling up buckets with sand and water to make mud :) I LOVED watching the kids and there cousins play together and all be in their own little worlds. Craig started to try and find some sand crabs and we weren't seeing a ton and then all of a sudden they just kept getting washed up and the kids went crazy!!! There were hundreds and they spent most of the time picking them up and filling a big blue bucket with them all. Caleb had been talking about how he wanted to catch crabs and find seashells at the beach before leaving Utah so he was so excited to be finding all these crabs. They were so cool to watch. You would see them all wash up and then all of a sudden they would all start "sinking" back into the sand. Jeffery also found two hermit crabs. We finally pulled the kids away for some lunch. We played some frisbee, Tommy and Craig tried surfing along the break, we buried Nate in the sand (Poor little Emmie did not like seeing this, she was worried for her brother) and had the best time! We finally dragged ourselves away after about 5 hours. We hit the McDonald's on the way out to use the bathrooms and grab some fries and sundaes. They kids were wiped and slept most of the way back home. We finished off the night with showers and a yummy BBQ. This was such a fun, fun day!!! One of the kids' favorite memories of the trip and I would have to agree.
